Guenter Mokulys (born October 30, 1963 in Bonn, Germany) is a German skateboarder. He is an 11-time freestyle skateboarding world champion. In addition, he participated in more than 100 competitions worldwide and is considered one of the most successful skateboarders ever.
Mokulys grew up in Dortmund. He currently lives in Berlin. At the age of 18, Mokulys began skateboarding. It was followed daily, up to nine hours training and a move to Münster. His training ground there was one of the first outdoor skate parks in Germany.
In 1984 and 1985 he was part of a training camp with coaches and skateboarders like Rodney Mullen, Tony Hawk, Mike McGill, Lance Mountain and Per Welinder in Täby, Sweden. Motivated by this experience, Mokulys decided to spend more time skateboarding.
After three years of training Mokulys won the 1986 Amateur World Cup in freestyle skateboarding at the "Transworld Skateboarding Championship" in Canada and the Münster Monster Mastership in Münster.
In 1987 he came as a professional skateboarder for Titus Dittmann's Titus Skates team under contract. It followed until 1992, Europe-wide about 50 other competitions and show performances.
Mokulys decided to write the first German-language textbooks about skateboarding. Initially ridiculed, his six books written from 1987 to 1994 became successful.
In 1991 Mokulys won the professional world championship in Münster in Germany. Starting in 1994, skateboarding had slipped to a low point in the US and Europe: There were virtually no competitions left, so Mokulys stopped skateboarding. In 2002 in Cologne he came back to skateboarding. After a year of training Mokulys won the 2003 World Cup in Würzburg. Another 50 competitions worldwide followed.
In 2004 and 2007 he again wrote books on skateboarding and founded his own Sir Marshall publishing house.
This was followed by worldwide show appearances since 2009: With a friend and skateboard street artist, Eddie Hawk, Mokulys founded the "Skateboard Masters" who were able to celebrate successes on stage, in variety shows and on TV (2013 The Great Chance, 2014 Got to Dance and 2016 Tell the Truth).
At age 53, Mokulys is still one of the world's best freestyle skateboarders and competing in competitions and shows worldwide. He earns respect and recognition from his colleagues, especially through his routine, mostly flawless runs.
In freestyle skateboarding, he holds at the age of 51, the record as the oldest champion of a World Cup at the World Freestyle Round-Up 2015 in Vancouver.
Most recently, he won the Big Rio Freestyle Contest in January 2017 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
